Getting Here

  • Flying: The nearest major airport is the Boise Airport (BOI).  From Boise you will need to catch a shuttle flight to Salmon, ID.  Contact Salmon Air at (800) 448-3413 to arrange your shuttle flight.  You will want to book the Boise to Salmon and return McCall to Boise option. You will be picked up at Salmon Air by Idaho Afloat or possibly a shuttle service, depending on the size of the trip.  From Salmon, you will be taken to a local lodge where you will receive your waterproof bags and a pre-trip briefing before leaving for the put in the next morning.
  •  Driving: If you're opting to drive, you need to meet us at the lodge the night before the trip to receive your waterproof bags and pre-trip briefing.  We use several in the area and will let you know ahead of time where we will be staying.  The next morning we will have you drop your car off at a shuttle check-in in North Fork, ID before we head to the river.  You will need to arrange a shuttle for your vehicle so it is at the take out when the trip is over.  We recommend River Shuttles out of Salmon.  You will leave your vehicle at the Village at North Fork and it will be shuttled to the Carey Creek Boat Ramp.  Check with your guide when registering to make sure there are no changes in the take out location.

Fishing

  • Nice Brook Trout!

You can purchase your Idaho license online from Idaho Fish and Game, over the phone by calling (800) 554-8685, or in Cambridge at the Canyon Corner gas station.  Idaho offers the option of daily fishing license rather than purchasing a full season. See website link above for prices.
  • The Main Salmon has great fishing opportunities. You'll likely reel in rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, small mouth bass and catfish.  We provide several fishing rods and tackle on each trip.  Serious fishermen should consider bringing their own equipment.
  • Fly fishing is welcome, however for the safety of other guests, we ask that you only fish from shore when we are at camp.

After the Trip

  • On the last day of the trip we will float into the take out around 2:00 pm MST.  There will be a shuttle vehicle waiting  to  take you to McCall if you're flying back to Boise. If you drove, your vehicle will be waiting for you in the parking lot.

Trip Insurance

  • Idaho Afloat strongly suggests that all guests purchase a Trip Insurance plan that will cover cancellation, accident, baggage loss, etc.  After you've made your reservation we will mail you additional reservation information, with that there will be a brochure for Trevelex Insurance Services.  They offer many plans to choose from.  There are many other insurance companies that provide these services if you do not like what Travelex has to offer.
